Lionsgate Q1 DVD, Blu-ray sales jump 47%

Lionsgate's fiscal first-quarter home-entertainment revenue jumped 47% on titles such as Rambo, The Eye and 3:10 to Yuma, allowing the studio to gain traction in a flattening DVD market while turning a profit.
Lionsgate's home entertainment revenue, which jumped to $152.2 million for the quarter ended June 30 from $103.8 million a year earlier, also "reflected significant and growing contributions from strong Blu-ray high-definition disc sales," the company said.

Sony: PS3 Sales Have Nearly Doubled in 2008
From GameDaily:
Following the latest NPD video game sales data for July, which showed the PS3 outselling the Xbox 360 by about 20,000 units, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has issued its own reaction to the sales, noting that PS3 hardware was once again boosted by the Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle. With the inclusion of the July data, the PS3 has now sold 1.8 million units in the U.S. in 2008, which represents 99 percent growth over last year.
Furthermore, PS3 software sales have grown 206 percent year-to-date. And Sony said there are now more than 10 million registered PSN accounts worldwide and approximately 200 million pieces of content have been downloaded across the globe. Overall, year to date (Jan-July), the PlayStation brand has generated nearly $3.3 billion in revenue, which is an increase of more than 22 percent.
"Our year-to-date sales growth of 99% for the PS3 reaffirms that consumers are indeed embracing PS3 as their entertainment hub-of-choice with its feature-rich offerings like Blu-ray and our recently announced video delivery service. With an unmatched software line-up that includes LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM: Confrontation, Resistance 2 and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, and the anticipated launch of our new 80GB PS3 model, we're confident in a strong second half of the year and look forward to quickly addressing any inventory shortages due to the transition," commented Jack Tretton, SCEA's president and CEO.

15mil pesos a la tasa actual, no me parece tan caro.

Live from Leipzig GC 2008
Nuevas noticas sobre ps3 y psp.
Updated PSP (PSP-3000)
The new PSP retains the size and features of the current, slimmed-down PSP (PSP-2000), while incorporating some hardware updates:
* The LCD screen will have a wider color gamut and higher contrast ratio to deliver deeper, more vibrant colors, as well as anti-reflection technology so you can see the screen more clearly when playing outdoors. As you all know, the PSP’s screen is a key strength of the hardware, and this update adds an absolutely dazzling LCD screen to the handheld.
* A built-in microphone allows for Skype calls and multi-player gaming communication directly from the hardware - eliminating the need for attaching a separate headset.
PS3 Wireless Keypad
Ps3 bundle con 160gb por 500 dolares con un juego.
Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune PS3 Bundle with 160GB PS3 System
The 160GB PS3 system announced at the GC will be available here as part of a new limited-edition bundle that includes the hardware, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune game, a PLAYSTATION Network voucher for PAIN, and a DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller. We’re hearing from a lot of you that more PS3 storage space is important, particularly since the launch of our video delivery service, and this new model delivers more memory and a whole lot of content packed-in. The 160GB PS3 has all of the same functionality as the new 80GB PS3 that’s popping up on retailer shelves now, but obviously has twice the HDD space, so you can build levels to your heart’s content in LittleBigPlanet, download a ton of videos, and still have room for your entire music collection. The Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune 160GB PS3 bundle launches in November for $499.99 (MSRP).

Casi Confirmado PS3 80gb Core Usa 65nm RSX
Un tipo compro uno en best buy y le puso un medidor y miren los resultados
User Generated Power Consumption Tests
80GB PS3 Core -
* XMB idle - 111.9 watts
* DVD playback - 126.0 watts
* Game (MGS4) - 130.0 watts
40GB PS3 Core -
* XMB idle - 125.8 watts
* DVD playback - 141.2 watts
* Game (MGS4) - 155.2 watts
80GB PS3 MGS4 Bundle -
* XMB idle - 180 watts
* Bluray Playback - 182 watts
* DVD playback - 197 watts
* Game (MGS4) - 200 watts
Stats
80GB Core vs. 40GB Core
* XMB idle - 11% Lower
* DVD playback - 10.8% Lower
* Game (MGS4) - 16.2% Lower
80GB Core vs. 80GB MGS4 Bundle
* XMB idle - 37.8% Lower
* DVD playback - 36% Lower
* Game (MGS4) - 35% Lower
What this means...
If you are a current 40GB Core owner and upgrade to an 80GB Core you will see a rough average of 12.7% less energy being used.
If you are a current 80GB MGS4 owner and upgrade to an 80GB Core you will see a rough average of 36.3% less energy being used.
Interesting things to note. The power jump between the 40GB Core and the 80GB Core is larger when playing games. This is likely an indication that it does include the new smaller die for the graphics chip, which would be most heavily stressed during game playing.
Esto le da cierta ventana a sony para rebajar aun mas el ps3 en cualquier momento, porque la diferencia de disco duro entre uno de 80gb y 40 gb es muy minima en precio de fabricacion.

IFA: Philips Demonstrates 3D on Blu-ray
IFA: Philips Demonstrates 3D on Blu-ray
Philips will demonstrate 3D on Blu-ray at IFA 2008. The demo shows that the company's 2D-plus-Depth content format can be applied to Blu-ray enabling a great 3D movie viewing experience on a variety of displays.
With the growing amount of 3D movies currently on theater release, people now want to enjoy the 3D viewing experience in their homes as well. In order to bring high quality 3D content to the home, the 2D-plus-Depth format offers a solution that can be applied to Blu-ray. Subsequently, these discs can be enjoyed on both stereoscopic (special glasses needed) as well as auto-stereoscopic 3D displays, which do not require glasses.
Philips 3D Solutions provides end-to-end 3D system solutions ranging from 3D displays for professional use, 3D content creation and conversion tools to technology licensing. Jos Swillens, CEO of Philips 3D Solutions:
"This demonstration of 3D on Blu-ray is a clear proof point of the flexibility and sustainability of our 2D-plus-Depth content format. It can bring high quality 3D content to the home on a variety of displays and offers a solution to the need for interoperability in 3D".
Philips 3D displays are suited for professional use in digital signage for retail, point-of-sale advertising, gaming applications in casinos, games and 3D visualization. Thanks to the WOWvx technology used in Philips 3D Displays, no special viewing glasses are needed.
WOWvx technology is developed by Philips 3D Solutions and indicates the use of technology related to 3 dimensional viewing experience. This technology comprises the technology to manufacture autostereoscopic lenticular 3D displays, display signal processing to generate multiple views for 3D displays, interface specification for 3D displays based on the 2D-plus-Depth format and 3D content creation and conversion tools.
The 3D data format used by WOWvx is in the form of 'image+depth' (2D-plus-Depth). The depth information indicates the position of each 2D image pixel on the depth axis in or out of the screen plane. Rendering of 9 different views out of the 2D-plus-Depth data is done within the display by means of integrated hardware. These 9 views are spatially dispersed in front of the display by the microlens layer.
Alongside this 3D on Blu-ray demo, Philips 3D Solutions will be showing 3 new 3D display products for professional use, the 52", the 22" and the 8". These products will be commercially available from Q4 (52") and Q1 (22" and 8") onwards. The impressive 132? 3D WOWzone will also be on show at IFA 2008.
All 3D demos and products can be seen in the Futurezone of the Philips booth, which is located in Hall 22A and B of the Messe Berlin, Germany.

Nueva demanda contra Sony y su uso del Blu-ray
PS3 Targeted in Blu-ray Suit
In an August 20 court filing obtained by Edge, Orinda alleged that Sony infringed on patent number 5,438,560, which in broad terms describes methods for recording and reproducing information via optical disc.
Orinda also named as defendants subsidiaries Sony Electronics, Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment America.
Orinda has demanded a jury trial, and is seeking an injunction on manufacturing, sales and distribution of Blu-ray devices such as the PS3, computer peripheral products and dedicated Blu-ray players.
The plaintiff is also asking for "a reasonable royalty."
"Orinda has been and will continue to be damaged as a result of Defendants' infringing conduct," the company said in the filing. "Defendants' infringing conduct will continue unless permanently enjoined by this court."
This isn't the first time that a company has sued Sony over Blu-ray. Target Technology sued Sony in May 2007 for alleged Blu-ray-related infringements. The case was dismissed a few months later.

45nm cell processors coming in 2009, slimmer PS3's coming?
Japanese publication Nikken has revealed that Sony and Toshiba will commence mass production of the 45nm cell processor during 2009 not during Fall as previously expected. The new chip should require approximately 40 percent less power to run than current models and could have implications for the PS3 such as possible price drops and a slimmer version.

Re: SONY PS3, PSP & Bluray ----Updates-----
Concept: PS3 USB port / Card reader plate.
Some dude called st0rmbr1nger has announced news of his new concept on a Playstation forum. He says that the lack of card slots on the PS3 is a real problem, this coupled with a shortage of USB Ports means that some new product development is needed! So whats the big idea? A plate which connects to one of the existing USB ports using a slimline USB header with ribbon down the plate. A multitude of ports, and a MS and SD card reader slot are also supplied bringing this bang up to date! At the back of the plate there are more ports for those always connected, but want to be hidden devices. He also suggests a luxury deluxe version which could be made out of aluminum, therefore providing extra heatsink for the PS3. Any takers out there, give him a call or just pinch his concept..

Psp plus
PSP plus
One of Sony's upcoming PSP games, Resistance Retribution, will utilize a newly developed technology called "PSP Plus." The feature will allow players of Retribution to connect their systems to the PS3, in order to enable use of PS3 wireless controllers. Using the DualShock will enable dual-analog control in the game. In addition, rumble will be supported. This potential use of connectivity was hinted at in a patent filed over a year ago.
Other games may be able to potentially utilize PSP Plus -- however, it is currently a Retribution-only tech. Stay tuned as we reveal the exciting additions PS3's Resistance 2 and PSP's Resistance Retribution will bring (together!).

Firware update para ps3 y psp 2.50 y 5.00
PS3 (v2.50) update
Now on to the PS3 v2.50 update. The latest features/enhancements include:
* Support for the PS3 Official Bluetooth Headset - we’ve told you about the upcoming Bluetooth Headset and SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation Bundle on the Blog. This latest firmware installment enables High-Quality (HQ) mode, which delivers clear and wide-band online voice chat. On top of that, an added on-screen indicator shows battery status, volume level and use of HQ mode.
* PlayStation Trophies interface enhancements - I know that many of you are busy collecting trophies and raising your PlayStation Trophy level. This update makes sharing and comparing your trophies with your friends even easier. On 1st part of the profile page you’ll see a symbol under level that represents level and the actual percentage towards the next level along with the existing level meter. The level symbol carries over to the trophy comparison screen where you will now be able to see your level, your friend’s level and the percentage towards the next level for both users along with all of the game by game comparison information you see today.
* Friend status – Offline friends on your Friends list will have information below their avatars that will indicate how long it has been since they were last online.
* Video – This update adds the Scene Search feature similar to the feature on the PSP. Activating this feature while viewing a video on the PS3 will break the video up into scenes that you can quickly access by pressing the X button. You can break the videos into one, two or five minute intervals. In addition, you can now choose to have all of the videos under the video section of the XMB play in sequence. Go to Settings then Video Settings to turn this option on.
* PlayStation Store – We’ve added a redeem codes option right on the store to make it easier to redeem your PlayStation Network Cards and promotion codes. In addition, PlayStation Network Sign Up and Account Management have been redesigned.
* Power Save Settings – You can now set your PS3 and wireless controllers to turn off automatically after set periods of inactivity. Go to Settings then Power Save Settings to turn on these features.
* Background Downloading - You now have the option to set the PS3 to turn off automatically after a background download or installation of content has completed. This option is available when you turn off the system from the button under [Users] while content is being downloaded or installed.
* In-game Screenshots - this tool will allow everyone to capture, share and in other words, immortalize their favorite gameplay moments. This will be supported on a game by game basis. Please check back to find out which games will support this feature.
* In addition to all of the features above there are some additional features and enhancements included in 2.50. Once the update launches, you can read all of the details here.
The support for the Bluetooth Headset will be of particular interest to all of you SOCOM fans. With the “Proximity Chat” feature, SOCOM: Confrontation gameplay is intensified as it allows you to experience high-quality voice playback in full surround sound. Whether the action is near or far, Proximity Chat clearly matches distance to sound effects and voiceovers within the game, putting you in the heart of the action.
PSP (v5.00) update
Let’s start with the v5.00 update for PSP. In this version, you’ll notice the addition of the PlayStation Network icon on the XMB. You can now sign up for PlayStation Network, manage your account and access PlayStation Store directly from your PSP - meaning you can download games directly to your PSP while connected via Wi-Fi. Getting games, demos and trailers while on-the-go has never been easier! Check out the screen below.
The current PlayStation Store on the PC will be down in the interim as we take some time to revamp. Don’t worry, it will re-launch soon after we’ve made some tweaks. Please keep in mind, if you already have a PlayStation Network account, simply sign in on your PSP using your existing information. The same account and wallet can be used on PS3 and PSP. You will be able to check out the PlayStation Store on the PSP soon, as we’ll have a video demo featuring Grace Chen posted soon on the Blog.
Update v5.00 adds a sleep timer option that can be used while you are playing music on your PSP. In addition, we’ve added a full screen keyboard option for text entry and have redesigned the background of the XMB. You’ll be able to find all of the information on Firmware v5.00 here once it goes live.
